💡 Let’s be real—every recruiter has seen a résumé that made them raise an eyebrow. But how often do we just… let it slide?
As a Talent Acquisition expert, I’ve reviewed thousands of résumés, and certain “creative liberties” pop up again and again. Some are harmless embellishments, but others? 🚩 They’re red flags.
The Most Common (Yet Overlooked) Résumé Lies
🔹 The Fancy Job Title Glow-Up "Strategic Operations Manager" (a.k.a. Cashier at a retail store)
🔹 The Skill Inflation Special "Excel Expert" (knows how to bold text and create a basic sum formula)
🔹 The Disappearing Act (a.k.a. Employment Gaps Magic Trick) "Independent Consultant" (no clients, no work… just a placeholder)
🔹 The Vanishing Degree "Studied at Harvard" (attended an online webinar once)
Why This Matters
Recruiters aren’t just looking for the right experience—we’re looking for honesty and integrity. Exaggerations can backfire big time, leading to awkward interview moments, failed reference checks, or even job offers being rescinded.
